Barrichello wins heat 1 at Massa’s go-kart race in Brazil
Xandy Negrão will start on pole on race 2
FLORIANÓPOLIS – After a fierce battle against polesitter Lucas di Grassi, Brazilian Stock Car ace Thiago Camilo and special guest Michael Schumacher, Rubens Barrichello won the heat 1 of the International Challenge of Go-Kart Champs, held this morning at the Ingleses Kart Track in Florianópolis (Brasil). Schumacher finished 4th, right in front of Felipe Massa, the Ferrari driver ending in a style a recovery race as he had started only in 12th.
It was an eventful race, plenty of spins, shunts and a slippery track towards the end of the 34 laps, when a sudden and brief rain hit the 1.0002 meter track. Schumacher was one of the victims of the worsening of the asphalt conditions, the German rejoining the race far behind Camilo. Italian Vitantonio Liuzzi, a frontrunner in the early stages, retired after crashing his kart. Liuzzi has decided to leave the event with a pair of ribs injured.
The second race will start at 17h00 (ECT). Benefited from the GP2-reversed grid style, Xandy Negrão departs on pole, while Barrichello closes the fourth row.
